Spreadsheet Controls

Robert D. Slater, CPA, Ph.D
Assistant Professor of Accounting
Coggin College of Business, University of North Florida

This presentation will discuss internal control considerations in spreadsheet use and design.  A model of designing spreadsheets with strong internal controls using the input/calculation/output model will be presented.  Common data input control techniques will be discussed such as data validation, cell protection, and naming cells.  Other handy and efficient spreadsheet functions will be discussed such as subtotals, pivot tables, IF functions, and the VLOOKUP function.

About the Speaker
Dr. Robert Slater is an Assistant Professor of Accounting in the Coggin College of Business at the University of North Florida.  Dr. Slater has earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting, a Masters degree in accounting, and a Ph.D in accounting all from the University of Sourth Florida.  Both his Masters degree and Doctorate programs specialized in accounting information systems.  Before his time in academia, Robert served as financial manager, network administrator, and database manager for a regional law firm for over seven years.
